Am considering a new 90 HP E-t

Am considering a new 90 HP E-tec to repower my 1300 lb. Center Console. Does anyone have an opinion from experience as to how this engine stacks up (other than less weight) to the 4 Stroke competition?

Thanks

"Susan, the ETEC has way bette

"Susan, the ETEC has way better bottom end kick (to get the boat out of the hole and on plane) than any 4 stroke out there.

And their overall power band is just plain better. With the ETEC every stroke is a power stroke - on a 4, every second stroke is power.

They run just as quite, get similar fuel economy and have way, way fewer moving parts than a comparable 4 stroke. Less parts = less to break, adjust etc.

I don't totally buy into the "3 years, no maintenance" line - I would still change the gear oil annually and the impeller at 2 year intervals.

I did however, get to participate in the final stages of a year long test of an ETEC 60, and the overall results were very impressive. That alone sold me so that when I repower, it will be with a direct injected 2 stroke (maybe just not an ETEC)...."

"A few folks at classicmako ha

"A few folks at classicmako have repowered with the 115 Etec on their 17 Makos. They have been generally happy, but have not found the motor performing as strongly as they expected, even when propped correctly. It is not the same motor you are buying, but you might pop over there and post the question on the classic mako site."

"I would echo Tim's commen

"I would echo Tim's comments - I don't think there is something wrong with the motors themself, I believe it's the "expectation".

Bottom line, regardless of how hi-tech it is etc, it is still just a 90 or 115 horse motor at the end of the day.

A 90 is not going to give you the same power as say a 150, no matter how technically advanced it is. I think alot of buyers expectations far exceed even the hype of the "new" motors.

A 90 ETEC should give you roughly the same performance you would have got from a classic 90 horse 2 stroke, in terms of top end speed, shot from the hole etc (as least as far as the "operator" will notice) - it will however, be much more fuel efficient and very quiet in comparison."
