9.9 starting problems

I have a 1983 9.9 model #E10ELCTC. New parts include ignition, plugs, solenoid, and fuel pump. I started it up and ran it approx. 10 minutes, shut it off and it started back up. This time I put it in forward gear and let it run for about 2 minutes. Shut it off and won't start! Engine cranks over with good spark but no fire. This happened on the lake a week ago and after sitting for about an hour and a half, it started back up and ran fine!? Any ideas? Carb?

Sure sounds like a carb issue, has the motor been sitting a while not getting run?
If so, carb cleaning and repair kit should be performed.
However something you can try first, since this "no-start" situation occurred to me once (and to another forum member here who applied the same method to get it to start) and since you have an electric start motor, is this: While pushing the starter button, press down on the throttle linkage (with a flat screwdriver so you keep your fingers away from the flywheel teeth) and see if it starts then, as it did for us in that situation.
It seems that sometimes the throttle advance allowed with the shifter in neutral is not enough to get it starting, however, if it keeps refusing to start unless you do this, there is something wrong and I would do a carb repair/cleaning anyway....
