9.9 JohnyRude or Merc?

If you had a choice between a mid 90’s JohnnyRude or Merc, which would you take, assuming condition was equal?
I notice the Mercs have a decent fuel filter under the cowl, looks to be the same unit as a mid 90’s Seadoo SPI I keep running.
Seeing debris is a major culprit of these little carbs,( and there is almost no room in my Evinrude to install even an inline filter, is this a valuable item.
How do you find each brand for longevity, easy to work on, price of parts?

???---A filter has you interested ?---------I say the Johnson / Evinrude lower units are far superior to the flimsy Mercury gear box !!------But you can not see inside those I guess.

That’s the intel I’m interested in. Of course I wouldn’t buy a kicker based on a $12 filter unit, but that little item has helped keep a 25 year old jet ski (Rotax engine), running smooth despite kids & their friends being none to careful about jerry can hygiene.
I’ve never really worked on the Mercs, last one was an old 100ish HP we used for skiing back in the late 70’s.Dont remember much about it.
Around my area, there seem to be far more Johnson/Evinrude for sale, but I didn’t know if that’s because they are more durable, or simply because there were more dealers selling them. I don’t know if price points were equal either.
There are quite few Yamaha’s & a smattering of Suzuki.

In Ontario you see folks looking for these 9.9 /15 HP OMC 2 stroke models.-----As is and for parts.-----Many folks starting to realize how good these motors are.
