9.8 merc water pump issue

Hey folks, im at a loss here. Was given a 9.8. Got it running but no telltale. Replaced impellar, it was shot. Still no water. Blew through the top end many places, all clear, all the way down to the input tube. Intake grille clear. Lower unit pumps with a drill on the shaft. Removed power head, plastic washer is solid. Compression tested 100 psi. Thermostat is removed. I wouldnt think thats it but could it be? What else am i missing. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you submerging the pump deep enough in the test tank? Too be safe it should be at least deep enough to the lower engine mounts, it wont pull water unless its deeply submerged.

Is it overheating? Those are famous for having the Tel Tale fitting plug up.

Try removing hose to the fitting and seeing if water flows.
