I have a Mercury 9.8 outboard. It says serial # 3267213, but I can't find it on the serial # locator and I can't find any diagrams for it. I'm assuming I need to take a look at the water pumps in it, but I can't find any part #'s b/c I can't find a schematic for it?

Help! :)

Thank you!

Josh

Waterpump impeller on those should be replaced about every 2 years.-Takes a 9/16" wrench on a nut on the front and a 1/2" socket on a nut just above the propeller.-Most of the impellers have a number on them to get the replacement.

Is there 1 or 2 impellers? I have one out. Is there one down below it? How do you get to it?

Two different types of impellers used: the later impeller design has a slot that went all the way across (and used the usual vertical key to drive it); the earlier design had a small slot that went only part way across the impeller. (It engaged a pin that was stuck perpendicularly in a hole drilled in the drive shaft.) Either impeller will fit the early design, but the pin design impeller doesn't work with the conventional key (unless you file the slot yourself, which I've done a few times).

Hope that helps.

The number can only be a 47-89981 or a 47-89980 please look at it again.-There is one impeller.

Got it. It looks like a 1 is following those numbers, but the little fin is broke off so I can't see the 1 perfectly which is why I couldn't get the part # right, so I'm going to go with that one. Thanks!
