Someone please help, I am confounded. I have a 2008 9.8 hp 4 stroke outboard, tiller handle. I took it out to lake to today and upon starting the engine overrevved ...I mean the thing was screaming at high rpms...and this was in NEUTRAL. I hit the kill switch and started it again...same thing. So I brought the boat home, took off the carb, gave it a good soak and cleaned the jets. Put it back on, started the engine again, and again, same problem.
I have checked the butterfly valves, both are working properly, nothing is wrong with the throttle cables....AAAAGH! I just don't know what could be causing the motor to do this! Please Help!
