Hello all I am working on a old 71 year model 9.5 evinrude long shaft and I had a problem with bow rise found problem and fixed but I have a problem now with speed, boat is a 14ft flat bottom 4ft wide at top widest point. I found I was only running on 1 cylinder and I did a comp. Check both cylinders at 60 psi. Pulled wires yesterday and only 1 cylinder sparking so today I pulled flywheel and found my plug wires were almost shorted in half. I was thinking about using a plug wire from my old truck and just cutting to size, points and coils are set and good. Just curious if this would be ok. These are old spare wires I have laying around.

PS sry its hard to read I'm posting from phone and still learning this darn thing. Thanks for your help in advanced.

also no marine shops close to me.

Evinrude dealers just cut the wires to length from a roll. As long as the plug wire is good, you should be ok. I would probably buy a new piece, but your call - nothing marine necessary - any auto parts store or tractor parts place has the wire.

The HT wire (coil to spark plug) must have a wire center. The newer automotive carbon center wires will not function properly.

Got everything put together this morning an she fired off on first pull thanks for help! What kind of issues will I run into with the carbon wire?I am only curious is all

Reasonable is the way I'd put it.

Figure 3' for each plug length.... you can trim off the excess when you're finishing up.
