8hp Mercury 2-Stroke - Leaking Gas

hi all, new to the forum and looking for a little help. I've had a small 8hp 2 stroke mercury motor for about a year now. Just recently, it has started leaking fuel from the top of the carburetor when the motor is tilted up out of the water. It looks like its coming out of a little channel that's designed to allow the gas to escape, but I can't figure out why it would just start doing it now? In the attached diagram, its leaking out of the channel under part #20 at the top.

So why now? What would cause this to start happening all of a sudden?

Thanks in advance!

Most carbs will leak when rotated 45 degrees! Try running the motor dry (pull the connector) when you're gonna shut her off. Good practice with ethanol fuel.

Thanks Jeff. I had read that somewhere else. I guess I'm just curious as to why it hasn't done this in the past, now all the sudden it is?
