8HP MARINER ID AND PROBLEM

Hi

Im new here and from the

Hi

Im new here and from the UK. I have a mariner 8hp engine with the ID number 8ML 6G1 L 316882. Wondering if anyone can put a date to it?

Also I have been having problems with the pee stream. It has always been somewhat on the weak side untill just recently It has stopped all together. I have changed the impeller and flushed out the head with a hose and get a flow by that way.

I can feel exhaust gasses coming out of the piss hole but with only very fine water spray I read somewhere that this can be caused by a failed gasket?? Any ideas please.

Not real sure of what your problem could be sorry... but i might suggest putting your finger over the piss hole and hold it there for about 10 sec. to possibly free it up and prime it. Also if you have an air compressor another idea would to possibly spray a light air into it to possibly free it up also...don't use TOO much air thou.

You shouldn't be getting exhaust gas out the tell-tale - the "stream" is fed from the top of the waterjacket. If that is the case then yes, you could have a bad powerhead base gasket and the cooling water is taking the easy way out - going right down the exhaust without properly circulating around the cylinders.

I would however check first to make sure the impeller has not slipped it's key, check the gaskets/seals on the waterpump cover itself, the guide tube for the water tube and make sure the water tube is sealing properly at the base of the powerhead - all of which could cause a weak stream.

Even before you do that try running a piece of wire or whipper snipper line up the tell-tale to make sure it's clear - might be nothing more than that..."
