"I've got a 40HP merc. mar

"I've got a 40HP merc. mariner "magnum" and I've been having problems getting it up on plane=low to no power. I just replaced the plugs and notice that #2 and #4 are not firing every revolution, only intermittently.... Could this be my problem and if so does it sound like I need to replace the powerpack and coils. Scrathing my head on this one. Help is appreciated."

Intermittent firing is usually a sign of a bad trigger.

But before you chuck the cost of very expensive ignition parts you need to troubleshoot the entire ignition system...

"found a complete ignition system that came off a 95' mercury 40. Can get the entire system for the price of just the powerpack and coils. The components look the same and I was wondering if they are compatable/interchangable. My serial no. is C201508 and the 95 serial no. is OG211876.
Will the 95' parts work??
