89 Johnson GT200 power pack question

Engine model number is J200STLCEB. Over the coarse of the past year I have replaced regulator/rectifier, power pack, and stator. All components are CDI. The timer base looks to have been replaced within the past 5 years. Now down to the reason I'm here...i was having a voltage regulator problem about a month ago, so during troubleshooting I placed my fingers on the stator to make sure it didn't get too hot. When I touched the windings for the power pack (Orange/orange-black wires) it was really warm. The white fiberglass wrap around the particular coil on the stator was starting to darken in color from the heat. So I contacted CDI, After my charging system issues i sent back the stator and regulator for warranty claim. I got all the stuff back together and I was running the motor in my drive way and I checked the windings for the power pack and it was really hot again. Is this normal? I pointed my temperature gun at it and it was low 200 degrees... The power pack was replaced this February and I have ohmed out all my ignition coil packs, nothing out of limits. Cleaned all grounds... Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

The top of the block gets warm, not quite as hot as the heads but it does get warm. I'm heading to the lake today to make sure I don't have any ignition hiccups when the engine is under a load. I think voltage is backing up in the winding causing it to get hot. When I was observing the power coil getting extremely hot I touched the adjacent windings and they were cool to the touch. I looked at the old stator and it had some "leaking stator" issues going on. The particular coil in question on the new stator appeared to have been going on with old stator too. It had bubbling epoxy resin evidence all over it. On that stator the coil was encased in a black box looking thing and on the new stator it's a coil wrapped with a fiberglass fabric and epoxied.
