89 Force 50 water pump seal

Can anyone tell me how to remove the drive shaft seal on the top side of the water pump housing on a 1989 Force 50hp, HO507Y9B. I removed lower unit to replace the impeller (badly worn), and found the outer area of the top WP seal has some damage to it. Seal is item # 50 in exploded parts view at:

Any help would be appreciated.

Pics? Fill out the profile and location.You sure it needs to be replaced? Usually the seal can be pushed out from the underside. I have an old housing if yours is in real bad shape.

Jerryjerry05, thanks for the fast response. After reading your response I cleaned it up real good and took another look at it. The outer ring on the seal was coming apart and the area that seals against the crankshaft was kind of loose on the shaft so I want to replace it while I'm in there. Sure enough it had a white plastic disk / washer under the seal that sits on a lip. Was able to tap on that a couple of times and it and the seal came out.

hey mcd, on youtube theres and excellent video of a guy doing a mercury motor water impeller replcement- its a 40 0r 50 hp I think- hope it helps! Gettin ready to do mine as soon as I get the parts- hey which impellar kit did you get? I have the same motor as you! Thanks

truckerx, sorry for the late reply. I checked out the video's on youtube and they are helpful, thanks. I didn't order a kit, just the impeller (47-F433065-2) and shaft seal (26-F349307). Going to install this weekend, hope I get the shift shaft right.
