"Hey guys I'm giving up on a good used motor. A mouse got inside the engine and chewed up some of the wiring. Not the trigger or the coil packs! If you are having a probem finding parts let me know. I have not done a compression check yet, but it ran fine before being put up."

"GRAHAM LAMB:
Purchased 1986 85hp force, no spark to any of three cylinders. Troubleshoot please, already tried new plugs."

"Ok, so obviously an ignition

"Ok, so obviously an ignition problem. It's unlikely that all three coils went at the same time (but not impossible).

Ditto the CDI packs - you have two of them - often times one side will go bad, and while not impossible, unlikely that all three sides blew at the same time.

So could be a trigger issue or stator - I would concentrate on the stator first.

Stator and trigger can be tested with an ohm meter or alternately a better test is a volt meter with a DVA adapter.

You should also check over every wire going into the main terminal strip. Force motors have some very delicate wires that tend to snap off...."

"Yea, been through that. You c

"Yea, been through that. You can check the cdi easily - one of yours only uses one of the sets of wires coming out of it - kinda like a back up. If you switch over to it and get spark you may have a cdi problem. The most common problem with these motors is the trigger, not so much the stator. If you get voltage @ the rectifier of 300VAC or more you are good. Then you know it is the trigger."

"Sorry forgot to also tell you

"Sorry forgot to also tell you, our motor put out between 260-320VAC on the stator. Also you may have voltage on the coils. As the motor turns it will charge the coils, once it charges them and has no other draw it stops producing voltage. Until the packs discharge will the startor start giving you voltage readings again. I took the readings at the CDI if I remember right and cross checked them at the rectifier."
