"Robert, could be a bad coil. Swap your coils around and re-check. If the problem moves you have your answer.

If that isn't the problem please post your model number if you know it. There was about 20 different models of 1989 50 horse Force motors and some of them look nothing like the others under the hood...."

1986 model won't have points - most outboards have been "pointless" since the 70's...

I most of been lied to. It does have points. how do I find out what year it is? The model number is 507x5a Serial number is 2931. I would like to set the points before I go back together. Thank you again.

"Looking at that model number

"Looking at that model number tells me a couple of things.

First off, that looks very much like a Chrysler model number for a 50 horse - not a Force which wasn't built until after Chrysler outboard was bought out.

And secondly, I can't totally equate the model number, but the 507 model I can only find listed for 1981-83 model years.

So not exactly sure what you have there - other than most probably an older 50 horse Chrysler..."

"507x5a is listed as a 1985 and as a force motor, still doesn't help you with the points though.

sorry"

"Grahm,
I swaped coils, still no spark in lower cylinder
The model # is 507F7C Do you have any more clues as to what could be wrong?"

"Robert, that's not nice.

"Robert, that's not nice. Would have really suspected the coil. However, you will have to have the stator and the trigger tested.

Usually if one of those is the issue you will totally lose spark, but the trigger could be causing the loss of spark at one cylinder.

As both of these parts, although still available, are incredibly expensive, if either is the problem and you can not find a used part, I would seriously consider replacing the engine.

This is a 1987 (Force, discontinued and losing support with no dealer network anymore)model and it just wouldn't be worth throwing 500 buck in parts alone at - in my opinion..."

"Gram,
could you tell me wher

"Gram,
could you tell me where the trigger is? and if anyone has a diagram they could post for me that would be great."

"The trigger is located under

"The trigger is located under the flywheel (which must be removed for access) - however, to test it, you simply connect your meter to the lead wires which come out from under the flywheel.

#3 in the diagram is the trigger....
