When performing a cylinder lea

When performing a cylinder leak down test can some one give me some simple instructions? This is for a two stroke engine.

"Doing a leak down test on a 2-stroke is a waste of time. Do a simple compression test.
The only way it may leak on a 2-stroke is by passing the rings or head gasket, there are no valves in the head."

In total agreement with Morten

In total agreement with Morten. A leakdown test on a two stroke engine is worthless. It either has proper compression or it does not.

"Thanks! For the advice, however this is my dilemma. I recently purchased the motor went on vacation and put about 200 miles, the motor compression before my trip was 125 3 of the cylinders and 120 on one, however I noticed the motor getting a little noisier during the trip making a slight clanking noise hard to explain, at mid to low throttle, however at full throttle no noise. I was operating the motor at 4,000 feet elevation and I kind of thought it may be the elevation, However once I returned from the trip I check the compression dry because I ran the gas out of the carbs and the reading were 120 3 of the cylinders and the one that was 120 dropped to 110. I’m concerned if I have a bad cylinder and if so I really concerned about breaking a head bolt if I have to remove the head to look.

Any suggestions?"

"Best to remove the cylinder h

"Best to remove the cylinder head for inspection. If a head bolt appears to be extremely hard to remove, use a hand held propane torch to heat the aluminum surrounding the bolt. This will expand the aluminum somewhat allowing the bolt to turn.

Be sure to have a fire extinguisher and a garden hose handy just in case."
