i am new to boating bought use

i am new to boating bought used sunbird when first start it cranks but no start takes a few cranks but eventually starts lil rough when trying to warm up but once running for a few runs great any suggestions on what issue could be? also when i try giving it throttle in neutral you hear pop noise then stalls

"Old spark plug wires can make an otherwise good running engine hard to start. If the plug wires have been on a long time, get a new set. Plug wires last a long time so I like to get high performance street legal set (Accel, MSD, Taylor ect.) The distributor cap and rotor should be periodically changed. Being that you just got the boat I would assume it needs a new cap and rotor. Be careful when changing the cap not to mix up the wires. Transfer the wires carefully one at a time."
 
havent took out plugs yet but

havent took out plugs yet but seen wires dont look bad no cracks not worn but replace them nonetheless thanks for advice

"John, your also carburated, could be a faulty choke, choke pulloff, maybe after years of use and fogging it needs a rebuild, that pop may be an engine sufficating. just a couple ideas"
