"I got an 88 9.9 recenly and just got it running. Ive found that I now need to replace the waterpump. I put it in a garbage pale with the the water level about where it would ride if the boat was in the water and I have no water shooting out anywhere. From my understanding there should be water coming out of the rubber hose coming from the head and theres not. Can someone give me a walkthrough on what to do and expect when I tear into this project? Should I by an impeller or should I buy a complete kit? Also, how do I go about changing the lower unit oil and what do I replace it with? Is there any other things that should be updated or looked into before I put this in the water. Thanks for all the help, its appreciated."

"Since the motor is "new to you" - assume that it was NEVER maintained.

Get the entire waterpump kit and a manual while you are at it (Seloc's is fine and a deal at 35 bucks).

It is not difficult to do the entire waterpump on these little motors - in fact, once you have done it a couple times you will have the lower unit off, pump completely rebuilt and have it all buttoned back up in less than an hour."
