88 johnson tilt/trim problem

Checking to see if anyone has idea what might be happening. The trim motor is approximately 2 years old. THe trim works fine, but the tilt does not work all the time. I hear a clicking at the engine area. WHen I move the wires that attach to the trim motor the tilt/trims seems to work. Could I have a wiring connection problem at the motor? Or any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Trace the wires from the tilt motor back to its connection, unplug it. Run jumper wires from the battery directly to those two wires to run it in one direction.... reverse the wires to run in the opposite direction. If the motor runs and the tilt functions as it should, then obviously the electric motor is okay.

Your problem, since moving the wires cause the motor to run, sounds like a poor connection scenario.

Greetings friend I have a motor johnson 100 hp year 1987 V4, my engine trim has the same fault, does not work, and sounds a click !! I did the test you are describing (the direct motor to the battery) and when connecting to the battery and exchanging the contacts to go up and down, it short circuit, now, I use a battery charger (200 amp start) and it takes off and Works well for a while, then re-strikes when the engine spends time running, parked out of the water. (Re-sticking and short circuit) .. what could it be? thank you very much
