engine dragging when trying to

engine dragging when trying to get on plane will go for a bit then take off like flipping a switch. rebuilt carbs and put on new fuel lines and bulb still doing it however now when i throttle into it alarm goes off. Its a constant alarm not a beeping. top end feels like running out of fuel. anyone have any ideas????

Put a timing light on the vari

Put a timing light on the various plugs and monitor ignition performance.Compression test also in order.

"also,.....u either have a fue

"also,.....u either have a fuel restriction,or it is overheating....those r the only 2 things that will give that eng a constant alarm..TRUST IT.."

"I'm having a similar prob

"I'm having a similar problem with my 1991 Evinrude XP150. Have owned it since new. Now has intermittent prob of low power, then ON like a switch, full power. Comp good. "Hint" of alarm used to occur, but not continuous alarm, a weak slow beep. Have not had that lately tho. When new I had a similar symptom, and it was repaired under waranty- I was told a diode in the wiring harness was in backwards, causing overheat protection circuit to activate intermittently and cut engine RPM. I'm wondering if current problem could be related or similar. It feels like ignition cuts out to one or two cylinders causing low power for awhile, then it comes on instantly like a switch- full power, very strong. When running during low power symptom you can smell gas in the exhaust. I don't think it's a fuel constriction problem.
Took it to the shop, but since it's an intermittent problem they couldn't find it, said it ran fine for them. It sucks when your trying to ski with your buddies, tho, and it won't pull you up out of the water.
ANY IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS/ADVICE???
THANK YOU!"

its a fuel restriction problem

its a fuel restriction problem.went thru hell with my 225.bad primer ball maybe?dont trust even a new one.good luck

"Was it the primer ball on you

"Was it the primer ball on your 225? My primer ball seems to work fine. Pumps up normally and develops good firm pressure, never have to repump while running. And when I'm behind the boat and it's running in "bad mode" I smell gas strongly, like one or more cylinders is not firing but is blowing gas vapors thru without burning it. Seems to get terrible gas milage when it's running in bad mode. Would that be the case if it was a fuel restriction or bad primer bulb?
Thanks!"
