'88 Evinrude 40 (E40ELCEC) bought new, used for about 100 hrs over 2 or 3 years, then retired. Would like to return to service. The manual tilt hydraulic release mechanism was ongoing problem-the release handle would sometimes break due to the strain on the release cable, or??? Did anyone else have this problem, and if so, what was the solution? I'm considering scraping the manual system and refitting with a powered tilt. Any recommendations? Many thanks.
