"Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I am trying to fix my old man's Suzuki outboard, a DT85 8501-751xxx. The outboard starts fine, but back fires a bit(I think it's due to too much retarded in timing, but don't know where to tweak it). When I put the boat in water and engaged in gear and opens up throttle, the engine cuts out. I wonder if it's something to do with the ignition timing. I know this engine uses a electronic ignition system and uses a magnetic sensor for timing, but don't know where to tweak it. Any help will really be appreciated as this is my Dad's pride and joy."
