Oil is leaking in my engine. The reservoir drains down after the motor has been in use. If I clean the mess up turn on the key the reservoir fills back up. Stops at the mark and never looses a drop for days. Tilted up or down it doesn't matter. Does the pump have a shut off valve that's not closing until the pressure is off? Sometimes I loose a lot of oil and sometimes only a little. I would appreciate any suggestions. The motor only has 525 hours on it.

From where exactly is the oil leaking?
At the reservoir, some where along the hose from the reservoir to the oil pump or at the oil pump?
There is no shut off valve between the reservoir and the oil pump.

That’s my dilemma. In following the lines I don’t see any apparent leaks. I turn the key on to pressurize the system. I have the air box off, the motor tilted up, primed the fuel, let it sit for a couple hours, nothing! It’s like the thing knows when I am looking. I am going to pull the carbs today for a cleaning and gaskets. Maybe with them out of the way I will find something.
I very much appreciate the diagram and reply. The St. Clair river is still flowing here in Michigan. I will try to run it in the launch after I get the carbs done. I let you know what I find.
Thanks again!

I found the leak. When my carbs were off I could see oil leaking from the oil port into the intake and down the motor. I noticed that the linkage to the pump is not closing completely. Could this allow the oil to flow out of the ports?

Is the oil level in the engine mounted oil tank above the level of the point where the oil leak is occuring?

If so, and if the oil level in the engine mounted oil tank is lowered to below the level where the leak is occuring, does the leak stop?

The oil setting position on the pump should not matter.

Do you have the complete model of the motor?
