87 merc cutting out

I have a 1987 25 hp 2 stroke merc that cuts out at full throttle. it starts and runs/idles great, runs great at low, 1/2 or 3/4 throttle but cuts out like its starving for fuel at full throttle. I've tried different tanks, gas lines, cleanung the carb, emtying the bowl, nothimg seems to work. starting to think its an electrical issue...any suggestions?

try pumping the fuel bulb when it happens and see if it clears up.

Have the stator tested (need a DVA meter at a shop).

This has low and high speed windings. If the high speed windings are on their way to Davy Jones locker they might not be producing enough power at top rpms to keep the ignition fed properly.

The test takes about 2 minutes and most shops will do it for 1/2 hours labour (motorcycle shops can do it as well) - and that is far cheaper than swapping a stator (about $160 bucks) and then finding it's not the problem (although it well could be).

You have troubleshot the fuel system, so the ignition is next in line.
