Recently got a Mariner 45hp and boat. Cant get the motor to fire and not sure what type of ignition system is on it. the motor has been outside for approx 3yrs in the Canadian weather. Tried kill switch in both positions just incase but no spark at plug. where should I start? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Start by removing the black/yellow wire from the switchbox to determine if there is a fault with the stop circuit. Use a spark tester set at 7/16", and make sure all plug leads are grounded. If you still have no spark, pull the flywheel and clean the stator lobes and flywheel magnets with scotchbrite. Remember also to use a fully charged battery when testing, the alternator driven ignition will not work if the cranking rpms are below about 400 rpm.
