But if its a long shaft model take the 5" extension off with it, clean the shaft then remove the extension.

Shift rod simply pulls from the gubbins at the top, water tube pulls from the water pump.

Drive shaft may well be stuck in the splines at the top though.

Check that you can get a good flow of water through the engine by connecting a hose to the watertube. Grommet at the top of the watertube can cause problems. Powerhead off to get at that when necessary.

Lightly grease the splines at the top of the shaft when rebuilding."
