"Update, all the help/advice you all have given has paid off. My motor runs great, except, I was getting around 4200 rpm, couldnt get more, then last saturday it decided to jump to 5200 on its own and put a big smile on my face. What happened? Also trim/tilt has slow leak, can a backyard mechanic like me repair this? Thanks Graham, Benjamin, and all others for your help. I have faith in motor now and can take grandkids fishing."

"Hi there!

Good to hear things are getting better that side, still a few months before I get anywhere near the water... Just had two weeks of blissful vacation with the family up north, where it's warmer. Back home in the cold now... AAAAARRRRGH!!!

Can't remember what the issues you initially had with that motor. You could have a sticky advance with IGN system, bumping on the water could have helped it? There are so many potential faults to look for here. Refresh my memory on this one, I'll dig around for an answer.

Yes, most technically minded people should be able te re-build the T & T unit. You'd need to remove the unit and strip it first to see where the leak is. Without advocating you to mess the enviroment, maybe run her as such, and do the job in off season. Sometimes parts and labour take time and you could miss out on a few memorable trips with the little ones... Also, some motors need to be removed from boat to access the T & T... Less time on the water...

Keep us posted and enjoy the days!

Regards from a cold and wintery Johannesburg in South Africa!

Benjamin."
