Hello Gents. Its been awhile since I've had to get an answer, but I'm needing one now. My motor is getting water in the lower unit oil. I decided to check the oil last year mid season, and found water in with the oil. When I emptied the oil, there was probably 2x the amount that it should have been. I would periodically check the oil throughout the rest of the season (every few trips) and found water in there. Not a lot, but it was there. At the end of the season, I refilled with fresh oil. I'm wondering which seals might be leaking?

You would be shocked at the price of parts, such as shafts and gears.-------Some will argue, but I would take the unit apart for inspection.-----IF parts are still good a complete seal kit and waterpump impeller should be installed.-------Not hard to do if you have some desire to learn.
 
I've replaced the impeller before, so not a problem. Are there any extra seals above the water pump? The other seals, I've not done. One thing is, I don't get oil leakage from the lower unit.

Remove the large slotted drain/fill screw from the bottom of the gearcase and also the identical looking screw that will be located up near the cavitation plate in order to drain the gearlube.


After all of the lubricant has drained, install one of the slotted screws, whichever your preference might be.


Apply 7 to 12 pounds of air pressure to the open screw hole. Use a piece of rubber fuel line or something to create a tight air hose fit if you do not have a proper fitting.


If a leak exists, that pressure should allow you to locate the leak by sound and/or sight.
