'86 johnson 70 hp NO FIRE

I'm not getting Fire to any of the 3 spark plugs. I need help narrowing down the problem and testing stator/power pack with ohm meter.

Is the safety tether connected? Try disconnecting the kill switch wires from the cdi box and see if you have spark. www.cdielectronics.com has the testing procedures for you ignition system.

Just happened to me today on the river and let me sit after starting and running fast on my 85' 20hp..Did not know what was wrong till I was able to get to the house.Hooked up spark checker and none!!Started CDI trouble shooting and stator and trigger had good readings.Kill switch ok.Thought it was the CDI then I decided to check ground on CDI to block.The connector mounted against the block with CDI wire had no continuity from it to gound on engine block.Took bolt out and cleaned things up.Spark back.Started first pull.Hope that was it for sure.Hope this may help others.

Remove the black/yellow kill wire from the "M" terminal of the ignition switch. If you now have spark, the switch has an intermittent short, in which case, replace the ignition switch.

Inspect these grounds every year as normal maintenance, happy safe boating from here on out
