"I am concidering selling my 40hp Evinrude, I was wondering what I should ask for it? It is a great running motor and I dont want to lose anymoney, I paid 900 for it, I live in missouri, close to the river should this help it sell? any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for the tips"

"William, after you get over the shock from Nada, which probably value's your engine around the 150 buck mark, check places like Ebay or buy/sell websites to get an idea.

Price is also dictated by where you live to some extent unless you are willing to ship the motor somewhere else upon sale.

You don't say "when" you paid 900 for it, but if it was in the past 3-5 years, you probably paid too much.

What used to be mid-sized horsepowers (30-75 horse) have really dropped in popularity. They are too big for small boats (12-14') and way too small for today's larger boats (16'+) that routinely hang well in excess of 100 horses off the back.

I would expect that motor to sell for in the 500 dollar range and if it was exceptional and you found the right buyer, maybe upwards of 750.
