86' evinrude 40hp overheating

I have an 86' evinrude 40hp. When I start the engine everything runs great. after a few minutes of run time a warning buzzer comes on and shortly after the engine turns off. not sure this is electrical or something else. any help would be appreciated. dont want to have to paddle in again.

You need to initiate repairs !!!------It sounds like you have an overheat condition.-----------------Do a compression test !!--------------Inspect / replace water pump impeller.----------------Hopefully it is not too late !

Is there water circulating coming out of the back of the engine ? can you touch the head with out cooking an egg on it ? If you have on water circulating most likely the impeller is shot. (lower end tear down) replace impeller.
