Hi,
I just bought an 86 90HP 2 stroke engine. There is a little rubber hose running from the lower unit to the top but doesn't go any where. What is this hose for and where should it go? Also what is the normal checking procedure for a used engine that been sitting for awhile? The engine starts up and runs fine. I removed the fuel filter and clean it. I will check the oil and probably replace the oil for the lower unit. I will clean out the oil tank and put in new yamalube. I will remove the carbs and clean them as well. Do I need to open up the oil pump or fuel pump and clean it?
Next question is on my 1988 90HP that I just destroyed one cylinder recently. I bought this motor and the compression were 120 on all 3 cylinders and it ran good for a short while. Recently it started to cut out at hi RPMs for a few times. My stupidity for not checking it when it started. Now one cylinder has 30PSI and the other 2 still 120PSI. My next question is what could be the problem that caused the failure in 1 cylinder? Carb clogged or no oil? I cleaned the carbs out recently so it could be oil. This engine has one oil pump and it feeds 3 carbs from the same point. So if one it's not feeding oil then 3 cylinders won't be getting oil instead of one. The other thing I noticed was I put a clear oil line from the oil tank to the oil pump and I see there are air in the oil line. I bled it and run the motor and it fills up with air again. At this point I know this motor will need to be rebuilt but I would like to gain some valuable lesson so that I won't let it happen to my next motor. Thanks for any info.
