850 merc carrier nut

Hey all, new to the forum. Question is, how critical is it to get the carrier nut to 210ft/lbs? I was told by a local shop that as long as its tight its good. Reason i ask is i rounded off the clutch dog and forward gear, but it may have been out of adjustment elsewhere as well. Thanks

210ft/lbs sounds way to high to me i was thinking like 80. I would guess you didnt have something seated right. but just my 2 cents

I thought thats quite high as well but whats stated in manual
