which would be my best option run my drive as it is or slap a drive on with the 1.98 gear ratio ?

Ayuh,... Hard to say,... You've done Nothing to identify just what the 'ell you've got Now....

85 Webcraft don't identify Squat...

one tooth is all that went on one gear ? Nothing else went? No fine metal shavings?

Nothing else hurt in the gear case ?

What new drive you picking up ?

Complete ready to hang on the boat?

Listen my friend lost 2 teeth on a gear upper alpha under the Verazzano bridge and made it back to keyport. How far is that got me maybe 30 miles maybe more

I was in my boat behind him when it happened didn't know thats what happened but i heard it and he heard and felt it on his boat,

All kinds of fine dust metal flakes and ruined all the seals in the drive.

Soo whats this got to do with you. One tooth can and will f--k up the whole drive.

You say nothing else is damaged, but you ain't tore it down so you really don't know, do ya ?

Soo again i say why not use it for the weekend take it easy bring a paddle. But are you really gonna enjoy yourself this weekend with this on your mind.

You going to be with other boaters to pull you in ?

ok sorry i wasnt more clear my webbcraft has a 350 merc in it currently running alpha drive with the 1.50 gear ratio i have a old alpha drive that is 1.98 gear ratio. and to the others questions yes only one tooth broke off i was able to get the piece out and i cleaned out the drive very well from visual inspection no other damage occured. my new drive is one of those sei bolt on and go drives parts are limited around here so it will be next week before i get it.if it would work i would like to bolt on the 1.98 drive and just watch my rpms?

That's quite a stretch in ratios. You will either be dangerously over-revving your engine or creeping along at 15 knots at proper RPM range.
