I'm having trouble getting the shafts out of my gearcase. Part number 35 in the image linked below seems to have the pinion gear stuck to it. I've removed the nut, item 31, and the retaining screw, item 3. The book says to pull on both shafts at the same time. Both shafts move but get stuck on the gears. I have access to a multitude of mechanics tool thanks to a friend. We considered trying a slide hammer but are not sure how to attach it, since the free end of the shaft is splined. Any ideas?
