"i have a 1979 85 that hads almost no hours on it. its been in my family since it was born and has hardly been used. recently i have taken it out of storage and tried to get it running i have to running now( with a new feul pump, lines, rebuilt the carbs new spark plugs and re did the grounds) but well its sitting in the drivway on a hose it runs fine a little studder hear and there and stalls in idel some times but nothing mager i can rev it up as much as i want.......well once i get it int he water it will rev in neutral but as soon as im in drive it mis fires and wont rev past 1700 rpm before it dies... any ideas..

"When doing a project like that, throw away the muffs and start by getting a barrel to submerge the lower unit in (above the water-pump). Then do a PROPER synch according to the manual. Then check that timing advances, and it runs smooth in idle! No need to take it to any lake for sea-trial until You get the idle corrected, and stop reving in neutral!"

i have gotta it running on a can of gas and a new line its not fule that shwat i thought when i pyull out the plugs the 2 on the left side of the motor are a brown colour and on the right they are black....i dont have a tank big enough to stick the leg in..............thanks for the posts
