i have a 1974 johnson 85hp with on spark. can i check the power pack and stator some way? the stator looks good no melting black stuff coming out of it.is there a way to test them to see if it's bad?

"Remove the black/yellow wire

"Remove the black/yellow wire from the pack. If you now have spark, the usual cause is a faulty ignition switch.

If still no spark, it's usually a failed power pack.

NOTE: Always check the spark with the spark plugs removed."
