I just replaced the water pump in hopes to correct over-heating problem. (The components did show signs of wear) While the lower unit was off, I decided to check the thermostat & make sure the water feed tubes were clear. I discovered that the thermostat has been removed but the check valve is in place. (Iv'e had this motor for 24 years)
Iv'e always let the motor warm up before taking it out, so performance has not been an issue.
My questions are : 1 -- what is the purpose of the check valve?
2 -- can I remove the check valve also so there is always full flow?
