85 hp Evinrude- No spark

Hi, I bought a '79 Evinrude 85hp V4. It ran when I purchased it and now has no spark. I may have created this problem by checking compression w/o grounding the spark plugs. Not used to capacitor discharge ignition, tough lesson. Where would I begin testing components first. JLM

Charge the battery.----Load test the battery.----Take starter apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.
