"Just signed here, looking through the forums obviously ,because i have a problem ,, Our motor has been rebuilt completly top to bottom ,quite a few thousand later,, but once we were in to getting one thing fixed another would pop up,, the problem I am having now is the oil slick i get from the engine ,when sitting at dock or slow troll .I read on these forums that it could be the spark plug ,I did go with ngk the last few years.I am in no way a mechanic for this but can trouble shoot the basics ,, Last year the engine ran great,on our fishing trip, but by day 4 the oil slick started,i cleaned the plugs and put back in,, Could it be just as simple as the wrong plugs and not gapped properly ,it did go through more gas than it should . Any ideas and thanks.."

"The original spark plug setting (QL77JC4) was .040, you might try that to se if there's a change in performance.

Let us know what the compression readings are of all cylinders.

With the spark plugs removed, the spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP! Does it?

Check the stator under the flywheel for cracks and any dripping of a substance down on the timer base and powerhead area. If this condition exists, replace the stator as this indicates it is failing and would cause a voltage drop from the stator to the powerpack (weak erratic and eventually no ignition).
