"engine has sat for about 6 months, went to start today, and the starter spun but didn't kick up to engage the flywheel. Figured battery was low, so put the charger on it and let it sit for awhile. when I went out to try again, nothing will work, starter won't engage, and tilt n trim won't move, but did at first."

"I am getting 13.2 volts at the starter solenoid, until I turn the key, then the voltage goes to 0, and returns to 13.2 when the key is released. Acts like maybe it doesn't think it is in Neutral???"

"bad cables,bad/dirty conn&#39

"bad cables,bad/dirty conn's....bad batt...u can have volts and not amps....still go for the batt/ cables/and conn's."

move the positive lead from st

move the positive lead from starter to the positive post on battery...try to turn starter from the key...if it dont go to zero then you are dropping the voltage in the positive feed to the solenoid..

"if u move the pos lead fr sta

"if u move the pos lead fr starter to batt pos,u have taken the sw out of the picture, and it should crank fiercly.."

I think carl was talking about

I think carl was talking about moving the voltmeter test lead to find where the voltage drop is occuring.

yes i was..i got interrupted h

yes i was..i got interrupted here before i could go back and reread..its just my method of trapping the problem while its failing...same thing applies to the negative side..bad ground etc..in other words get a positive fix before the bugs goes away and then decides to fail in the boonies somewhere at sundown..sorry i jumped in jw..if i offended just say so...i think you pretty well covered it in your 1st reply..i just hate for a bug to be run away and then come roaring back..in this case a sickening silence on the water..

if it does start working witho

if it does start working without knowing why and no drop was seen i would replace battery..everything else can probably be done on the water..it is also possible for the starter to start working and still be dropping some voltage somewhere..in other word the problem wont completely disappear....respectfully..carl

Thank you to all who have post

Thank you to all who have posted help. I have some good leads to start checking on Sat morn. Hope to maybe be on the water by sat evening.

"I found a bad connection at the negative battery terminal. Wire brushed and reconnected, Now have power again....THANK YOU! Motor started, runs only when choked, then dies. Thinking possible that the jets in the carb are clogged???"
