"While fishing I noticed an oil film in the water after anchoring. I immediately went back to the ramp and pulled the boat out. When I took the drain plug out there was about 4 - 5 gallons oily water that ran out. When I got home and parked the boat I noticed oil dripping from the steering gear. Is it possible that the seal around the steering gear could let that much water in the bilge or do I have a seal cracked around the transom? My bilge pump is new and works.
Since I need to replace the seal around the steering gear I plan on replacing all of the seals in the upper, intermediate and lower unit at the same time. Do I need any special tools to replace all of the seals and how difficult is this task? Should I take it to a mechanic to replace the seals?"
