"Hi Jeremy,
if you've got a tacho revs should be 5000 - 5500 WOT with a average laden boat ( manual will tell you the exact RPM ). If not and motor runs well -Low RPM's = too much prop pitch
High RPM's ( possible cavitation too ) = not enough prop pitch.} Prop pitch is very important.
hope this helps,

"Jeremy,
My 84 90HP is doi

"Jeremy,
My 84 90HP is doing 32 mph (per gps) with a 521 prop on an older 16.5' trihull (no tach) with 4 adults aboard. I feel I'm not hitting the rpms I should either but I need to get a compatible tach to know.
Manual says 4250 - 5250 rpm operating range. You should have an ID plate stating this on your engine. Compression should be 145 - 165 psi on all cylinders. Mine are low, all around 135 psi but consistent.
Hope this helps,
DS"
