I had water in my lower unit and decide to change the seals. I damaged the carrier bearing while trying to pull the seals. Now the question is how do I extract the old bearing and install. I tried a socket and a hammer but it would not budge. The fear of damaging this was great. Any help would be appreciated. Carrier came out nicely.

thanks,

Get an opinion on it before running off into the heat of the day.

Got my bearing out. Used a piece of all thread and the right size washers to push bearing out. Worked pretty slick. Used what I had laying around my junk pile. Found a steel plate and drill a hole in it. Locked it in a vise. Laid the carrier against the plate and put the all thread through all. I think I can do the reverse to install. I heard putting the bearing in the freezer will shrink it a bit and make it easier to install.

Heat the aluminum bearing carrier with a torch. The aluminum will grow more than steel will shrink (from freezing). The bearing should just drop in. You could have gotten it out this way too, but sounds like you got that figured out.
