82b Mercury Stator

I have an 82' Mercury 50EL

I have an 82' Mercury 50EL and have been having trouble with the motor getting above about 4000 rpm. I had it looked at and was told that the stator was bad. Does anyone know or can tell me what the model # for the stator for this motor would be? I'm trying to hunt down a used one rather than buying new. Can anyone help or give me any guidance? Model # on motor is 6148605.

"If the stator was bad you would get nowhere near 4000 rpms.

Even on the models with both high/low speed coils, the cross-over point for the coils is considerably below 4000 (more like 2500 at most).

If the low speed coils were shot it wouldn't start. If the high were shot you would start getting misses above 2500.

Don't think the ignition is your issue - would suspect fuel problem.

Unless the motor is "new to you" and you have too much prop pitch considering what it's hangin' on..."
