Ser. 6163931, 1982 3cyl-2 carbs. Bought this boat and have been chasing down shorts, finally get blue fire on all 3 cyl. No gas to carb. Removed line going to pump got gas, gas not going thru, took off said pump and cleaned the two jets or orfices inside. What runs this pump? Not elec. Or gear driven is it air? Thanks ahead for input marcel

What runs this pump?
Pressure pulses from the crankcase are created as the cylinders turn over. The pulses push the diapragm in/out creating fuel pressure. There may be holes in the diaphragm. Buy a Mercury OEM kit and not the aftermarket...you'll be glad you did. If you spray Seafoam into the intake while it is cranking and it fires them the pump needs rebuilt. Some say spray starter fluid into it but it has no oil for the cylinders. I would not tell you to spray gas/oil mix into the intake...too dangerous if it backfires.

Yes i have a new bulb on and checked i am getting fuel to the pump just not past it. I just removed the pump again did not see any holes cleaned w/carb spray still no luck will try to find a diaphram kit.

If no fuel goes thru the pump then maybe somebody installed the check valves the wrong way round.--That is the only thing that could be wrong.

Nah it was running, i ordered a diaphram kit, should be here in a few days, will let you know whether that did it. Meanwhile do i need to check the vacuum hoses from pump to block?

Only one of those check valves can be put in assbackwards, but that's all it takes. I hope you get new checks with the diaphragm kit; and don't leave out the little gaskets that go under the check valves--important. Also, when installing the checks, be especially carefully to seat them flush with the gaskets/ housing. If they are tilted they will leak and the pump won't pump.
