82 evinrude short shaft

I am trying to pull the propeller shaft out so I can remove my short shaft gear rod and put it in another bottom end however I can not seem to get the propeller shaft to come out once I have the reverse gear and bearing housing out,I have the pinion nut loose but the prop shaft still doesn't want to come out can someone please help I'm new to this and I'm learning to take this apart on my broken bottom end bafore attempting on the new one
 
You have to be specific here.--------Model # and what are you calling the " propshaft "-------------Do you mean the driveshaft by chance ?
 
my model#BEV60ECNM which is a short shaft 60hp and I put a hole in the bottom end. All I could find was a long shaft bottom end. The dealer who sold me the part told me all I had to do was change the parts from mine to the new one. I was able to get the bearing housing and the reverse gear out and loosened the pinion nut,however the prop shaft will not come out is there a special way to remove the shaft so I can pull the gear rod out
 
Shift rod must be pushed down before removal.----------------Keep the short shaft pinion , thrust bearing housing ,shims , and driveshaft together , then no shimming needs to be changed.
 
i have the water pump and impeller housing disconnected. i have the prop off, i have the bearing housing, two snap rings removed..and the reverse gear...what is my next step? Confused.
 
Shift mechanism must be pushed down before pulling the shift rod out.---------Driveshaft and pinion must be out too.----Then the propshaft and forward gear assembly pulls out.
 
I appreciate all the advice from all people who are willing to help me out as I have never attempted to work on a boat motor before I am trying mybest to understand what is being said as I work on this project
