"I have a 1982 175hp Evinrude

"I have a 1982 175hp Evinrude that won't start. I was pulling a tube when the engine got hot and stopped. It will turn over fine and there is spark to the plugs but no attempt to start. Gas is getting to engine, tried starting fluid but no start. I am an electronic tech but I'm not sure it is electrical. Any help would be appreciated to start trouble shooting."

"If the engine got hot enough

"If the engine got hot enough to seize the engine, various wirtes are melted and the head bolts are loose as will be many other bolts, screws, etc.

If this is the case (loose bolts) remove the cylinder heads, clean the sealing surfaces, install new gaskets and torque the bolts 18 to 20 foot pounds in the following sequence.

13..14
9...10
5....6
1....2
4....3
8....7
12..11

If compression now checks out okay, with the spark plugs removed, check to see if the spark will jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP! If it does, the engine should start. Let us know what you find.
