"I have a VolvoPenta GI 8.1 with a loud induction wail aroung 2800 - 3000rpm. Have any crusader owners had this and more to the point, is there a fix?"

That's induction resonance

That's induction resonance. The best way to quiet it is to add sound deadening material to the hatch and below the floor. J C Whitney (on-line) sell this aluminum/ felt stuff that works well. You contact cement it in place.

"Peter,

Although this is not abnormal, it may be made to be more tolerable.

Remove the flame arrestor then look and feel down inside the throttle body. Sometimes there is rough flashing around the intake and IAC port which can tend to whistle.

It is possible to remove the rough edges of these passages and quiet down some of this noise. Don't take a grinder to it! A fine file or emery paper will do the job. I would suggest removing the throttle body to keep the filings from getting down into the intake.

Good luck
Rick"
