80's s to 90's Remote Controls

Hi

I'm changing from an 82 115 to a 91 115 hp on my boat. The engine connectors for the remote controls look the same, red plug with 8 pins, same configuration. My question is about the tilt/trim hook up. On the 82 model, the tilt trim is an external box, with a two wire connector. Same for the trim gauge hook up, a two wire connector. On the 91, the trim controls are mounted on the block, and have a five pin connector. Can the 82 remote control be adapted to the 91 motor? Or do I have to get a new control box?

Thanks,
Bill

Not a big problem.
Use the 'old' cables from 82, just change the contacts at the ends.
The trim switch in the handle needs the Blue, Green and Red from the relay box, the instrument need the White/brown(?) and ground from the sender to the instrument.

Are all 5 of these leads in the connector from the relay box? If so, can I just splice in a new connector, using the old wires? Wait, the relay box wiring has 5 wires. My old connectorions only have 4...two to the external tilt/trim, and two for the gauge. What's the fifth wire from the relay box?

Haffiman, I only have the blue and green wires in the harness from the remote control to the old relay box. That box hooks up to the battery to supply power to the trim motor. I'm going through the wiring diagrams for the 91, and it shows the red going to the tilt switch at the remote control. Is it possible that on the old 82 remote control, there is an internal power feed from the battery side of the ignition switch to the trim switch?? I know, take it apart and look at it.

I do have the trim gauge figured out. It's just the extra wire on the 91 connection that has me puzzled.
