"this is probably a dumb quest

"this is probably a dumb question. What charges the starting battery on my outboard, is it the stator or rectifier? Thanks"

The stator sends voltage (

The stator sends voltage ( AC ) to the rectifier. The rectifier turns it to 13-14 volts DC to charge the 12 volt battery.

"thanks, I just installed a ne

"thanks, I just installed a new stator on it. I am trying to checto see if I have spark, how do I go about wiring a remote starter button so I can crank the motor over while I am at the motor."

Just go to the solenoid with t

Just go to the solenoid with the starter button.

do I run a wire to the solenoi

do I run a wire to the solenoid for hot and another to negative I haven't bought the starter button yet but figure it has 2 posts ?

"when checking to see if charg

"when checking to see if charging don't remove a battery cable to see,,, like on an automobile..... they say will kill the rectifier

my 2cents"

If you run one wire from posit

If you run one wire from positive and one to negative and push the button you will get a big surprise!!! You go to positive with one wire and the other to a small terminal ( not the one going to ground )on the solenoid!!!

"The solenoid has a yellow cab

"The solenoid has a yellow cable going to the starter, a black cable I guess going to the battery? a red to an inline fuse, a yellow/red stipe going to the wiring harness and a black going to the harness. I bought a remote starter switch at Sears both wires are black just need to know which wies to hook them to, and the igniton switch has to be in the on position correct?"

"Ray, To crank the motor, you

"Ray, To crank the motor, you want to connect +12V (battery voltage) to the thin yellow wire on the solenoid. Therefore connect the start switch to the battery cable and the thin yellow wire on the solenoid.

Alternativly, I use a clip lead which I clip to the thin yellow wire, and I touch to the battery cable to crank the motor. Now remember, the ignition switch shorts out the ignition, stoping the motor. If you disconnect the harness plug, the motor will start without the key being on."
